FAQ's
We offer four types of glass: Standard Glass, Anti-Reflective Glass, Museum 99 Glass, and Acrylic Glass. Each type has different properties depending on your needs, the lighting in your space, and your budget. Below is a guide to help you choose the right glass:
Standard Glass
Best for: Non-original artworks or when budget is a priority.
Features:
- Standard 2mm glass.
- High reflectivity, which can be noticeable on darker artwork or when placed in direct sunlight.
- No UV protection (0% out of 100%). Recommendation: Suitable for all types of artwork, especially posters, prints, or projects where keeping costs low is important.
Anti-Reflective Glass
Best for: Reducing reflections without paying for museum glass.
Features:
- Matte surface that minimizes reflections.
- Works best when the artwork is placed directly against the glass – slight blurring may occur if there’s a gap.
- No UV protection (0% out of 100%). Recommendation: Ideal for larger frames (e.g., A3 and up) where reflections are a concern, but UV protection isn’t necessary.
Museum Glass
Best for: High-value original works and pieces that need long-term preservation.
Features:
- Extremely high clarity and virtually no reflection.
- Excellent UV protection (99% out of 100%), which prevents fading – even in direct sunlight.
- Maintains true colour and detail, making it ideal for valuable works. Recommendation: A premium choice for anyone seeking maximum protection and clarity for original art, heirlooms, or cherished photographs.
Acrylic Glass (Plexiglass)
Best for: Large formats, children’s rooms, or spaces where low weight and shatter-resistance are important.
Features:
- Lightweight material, significantly lighter than standard glass.
- Impact-resistant and shatterproof – ideal for spaces with children or public environments.
- Slight flexibility and low risk of splintering if dropped.
- UV protection varies (typically around 90%). Recommendation: Well-suited for large frames, exhibitions, or areas where safety and weight matter. Note: More prone to scratches than glass, and reflections may still occur.
No Glass
Best for: Works that are already mounted on a backing board or don’t require protection.
Features:
- No covering – the artwork is displayed in its natural form. Note: Without glass, your artwork is more exposed to dust and damage.
Why choose Museum Glass?
Museum Glass is widely regarded as the best on the market. With unbeatable UV protection and clarity, it ensures long-term preservation of your artwork – without distracting reflections. Because we buy directly from the manufacturer, we can offer the most competitive prices on Museum Glass in Scandinavia.
A mount (also known as a passepartout) creates space around your artwork within the frame, enhancing its visual presentation. It highlights the artwork and gives the overall composition a more elegant and balanced look – especially for pieces where the colours extend all the way to the edges.
A mount also allows you to frame a non-standard sized artwork in a standard-sized frame – a practical solution if you want flexibility without custom sizing.
However, we generally don’t recommend adding a mount if your artwork already has a white border, as it often creates the same visual effect.
Our white mount is available in sizes up to 120 x 160 cm. The other 10 colours are available up to 81 x 110 cm. If you need a larger size, feel free to contact us at hello@wedoframes.shop.
For our frames, we use different mounting solutions depending on their size:
- Smaller Frames
A single mounting bracket is attached to the back of the frame. You’ll need just one screw to hang it securely. - Larger Frames
Two sawtooth hangers are mounted at the top corners of the frame. If your frame arrives with corner protectors, lift them to locate the hangers. For these, you’ll need two screws—one for each side.
Adding space between the glass and your artwork can enhance the visual experience by creating a more dimensional and “floating” effect. We call it a spacer frame, but the technique has been referred to by many names in the framing industry, such as distance frame, box frame, or aquarium frame. If you’re feeling confused by the terminology, you’re not alone—it’s a common question!
In simple terms, we mount a thin wooden spacer (available in oak, black, or white) measuring either 10 mm or 14 mm between the glass and the backing board.
This allows your artwork to “float” within the frame without touching the glass.important notes:
- Spacer frames are only available with Normal Glass or Museum 99 Glass.
- The price depends on the size of your artwork and the type of spacer chosen. However, we take pride in offering unbeatable prices in this category.
Our frame profiles are crafted from FSC-certified pine, ayous and oak wood, ensuring sustainability and quality.
Let’s bust a common myth: While solid oak is often considered a mark of high quality, this isn’t the case for picture frames. Solid oak is a hard wood, which increases the risk of gaps forming at the corner joints over time, as wood is a living material that naturally expands and contracts.
After extensive testing of various types of wood, we’ve found that FSC-certified, finger-jointed pine, coated with either oiled oak veneer or treated with our custom finishes, creates the perfect frame. Pine is a softer wood that is less prone to developing gaps in the corners over time.
To further minimize any potential gaps, we apply a small amount of special wood wax to the corner joints for added durability.
Sustainability, durability, and craftsmanship come together in every frame we make. Let us know if you have more questions! 😊
